DIY TASSEL EARRINGS TWO WAYS

DIY TASSEL EARRINGS TWO WAYS

Tassel earrings have definitely been having a moment this summer, and I am all about it. It's fun to throw on a statement piece to dress up or add color to an outfit. I love playing around with trend pieces and figuring out how to wear them to suit my style. I've come up with two different versions of tassel earrings and I have been wearing them both constantly! They're perfect to throw on with jeans and an oversized tee or to add some color to fun date night outfit. Watch the video tutorial below or keep reading for the full instructions.

Pair #1
Materials:
THREAD: 2 COLORS + GOLD
A PIECE OF CARDBOARD
SMALL JUMP RINGS
EARRING HOOK
2 EARRING HOOPS (the hook and hoops come in a kit at craft stores)

Wrap one of your colors of thread around a piece of cardboard that is about 2 inches long. The more times you wrap the thread around, the thicker your tassel will be.

Open up a small jump ring and slide it under the thread, then close the jump ring.

Cut the excess thread at the bottom of the cardboard and then carefully slide the entire loop off of the cardboard.

Lay the the entire thing down on top of a gold piece of thread. Tie a double knot.

Wrap the gold thread around the colorful thread a bunch of times, moving toward the jump ring at the top. Once you are satisfied with the way it looks, tie another double knot and snip the ends of the gold thread.

Slide your scissors through the loop at the bottom and cut. Trim the ends so that they are even. Repeat this entire process with your second color of thread.

You can find earring hooks and hoops in the jewelry making section of the craft store. These all came together in one package. Slide the smaller hoop on first, followed by the larger hoop. This will allow the smaller hoop to hang in front when you wear them.

Open up the jump rings on your tassels and slide them onto the larger hoop, then close the jump rings. As an optional step you can add additional small jump rings in between the two tassels to act as a spacer. How fun are these?!

Pair #2
Materials
EMBROIDERY THREAD: 2 COLORS
GOLD THREAD
MEDIUM JUMP RINGS
EARRING HOOPS

Open a medium size jump ring and slide it around the middle of an entire bundle of embroidery thread. Close the jump ring and fold the thread over it.

Once again, lay the bundle down on a piece of gold thread and tie a double knot. Wrap the gold thread around it a bunch of times, moving toward the jump ring at the top. Tie another double knot and snip the ends of the gold thread.

Slide your scissors through the loop at the bottom, cut, and then trim the ends so they are even. Repeat with your second color of thread.

Slide both tassels onto a hoop earring, then trim them so that they are even and the length that you want them to be. Absolutely adore this more casual option. Check out the video tutorial here!
